Mt. Whitney 8 day backpack packing list

The list of gear I took along on an eight day backpack to Mt. Whitney via Cottonwoood Pass, Miter Basin, Crabtree Lakes and the return on the PCT.

Trailhead weight was roughly 47 pounds.  Temps were cool,  maybe 40F minimum at night high 60s to 70s during the day.  Rained most days

Pack:  $200 Osprey Aether 70,  old, heavy(5#) but tough and able to carry 50 lbs in relative comfort -- Add Pack Rain Cover
Tent:  $300 Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2,  super light but expensive. with polycro groundsheet
Bag:   $100 REI Nooksack +35F UL bag 
Pad:  $70 Big Agnes Insulated air core inflatable 2.5" pad and repair kit
Hiking Sticks:  REI titanals
Daypack: $35 REI Flash 18 -- doubles as pillow, clothes bag
Lightweight foam sit pad -- full size next time maybe

Bear Can: $75 Bearvault 500
Stove: $40 MSR pocket Rocket
Fuel 8oz and 4oz cans,  used almost all of 8ozs,  didn't cook last night or last morning
Pot: $30  GSI soloist with plastic bowl

Water bottles -- two platypus 1L, one evernew 1.5L one nalgene canteen -- change to large bag for untreated water,  2-1L hard sided bottles
Aquamira water treatment -- probably go with gravity filter next time
